I have it and it keeps on cutting out the volume when I speak. That wouldn't be an issue unless every single time I change it in the app it just reverts back to its stupid default when you turn it off. I would not recommend for people using it on calls or for gaming.

Exactly what I need for my upcoming long-haul flights. I'm hoping to get some sleep without the constant plane noise.I've not tried them on a plane yet, but at-home use suggest that they will definitely do the job.

I've had these headphones for about a year now and I absolutely love them. HOWEVER there were a couple of nit-picky things that kept them from getting a full 5 stars. First the pros: These are by far the most comfortable over-the-ear headphones I've ever owned. I wear these all day 5 days a week while in the office, and can honestly say I have no issues by the end of an 8 hour work day. The charge is great as well! So long as I remember to charge them after work, they'll last the entire day even with the noise cancelling on (and when I don't there's still like half a days worth of charge somehow). And when you run out of battery, they charge super quickly so you're not waiting for hours waiting on them. The sound quality is also a huge pro for these headphones. You might be able to find some better sounding headphones elsewhere, but these are absolutely the best you'll get at this price point. Very clear audio and the app allows you to edit the equalizer in whatever way you want. They aren't too heavy and I like the touchless controls on the side Cons You can't use the headphones and charge them at the same time. When in the "wired" mode, you can't use the touchless controls at all. You will have to use your device for all controls The Ambient Sound control button just cycles through the different options. I would have liked for it to be able to momentarily activate "Ambient Sound" by holding the button instead of activating the auto equalizer. There have been a lot of times when I'm wearing them that I'll get asked something, so I have to pause the music, then activate the Ambient Sound, ask "What?", then click the ambient sound button to Noise Canceling, then play the music again. It would be nice just to hold the Ambient Sound Control button, and it pause the music while activating Ambient Sound automatically. I get I could just get around that by taking them off, but it's the principle of the thing! I think I've used the "Auto Equalizer" thing maybe once and that was when I first bought them and didn't know what it did.

Love these headphones, fantastic noise cancelling which I'm looking forward to using on a long haul flight. The sound is fab too! I've never bought expensive headphones before and they are worth it!

I traded my bose comfort in for these and don't regret it at all. The sony' have everything as the quite comfort for half the price. What can you say...? And I think they sound a little better. Deeper base crisper highs and in general a better sound.

As a student that needs to focus these headphones are extremely inadequate and a complete waste of money. Their over emphasis on “premium noise canceling” and dual noise sensor is so ineffective it feels like false advertisement. Please do not waste your money if you’re looking for actual noise canceling headphones. Never purchasing another pair of Sony headphones again.

The best noise cancelling HP I have bought so far. I watch lot of music videos & the movies, and the sound quality is excellent. With right amount of base and balanced sound it makes listening to music a real pleasure. I highly recommend it.

The noise cancelling is excellent, the fit is comfortable and the sound quality is very good. The only problem is the auto shut off feature which is very inconsistent and will turn off the headphones while they are still in use but is thankfully optional.

The sound is pretty good however the mic doesn’t connect to my laptop which is pretty useless. Great headset purely if you want to listen to music but really not good for work. Also no way to mute/unmute yourself.

Very heavy. Wish I’d tried them on before ordering on line. John Lewis has glowing reviews- not sure I concur. No idea how to activate noise cancellation

I love the equalisation of these headphones. You can really customise them to your preference. The build quality is great and everything sounds amazing in them.

Excellent product but the Instruction Manual is poor with only visual representation of the operating instructions. I understand this for multilingual use but not easy to understand.

I like this one more than series x5 and x6 But noise cancelling isn’t like what I expected

I bought this product for a month. It is above an average product. The noise cancellation is above average as compared with Bose. I still can hear the engine on the plane. I have also used it for web meeting with wire connection. My own voice during the meeting was quite muffled which is not too good. Maybe I should use the ambient mode with the headphone turn on. Generally I am happy with the product.

I like this product a lot. Helped me a lot during studies.

I got the WH-1000XM4 noise cancelling headphones and they are like heaven for your ears. I am autistic and have ADHD and the noise cancelling feature is fantastic. I love that I can use them to shut the world out or listen to music (or both) they are honestly well worth the money. Sound is fantastic too! Love all the features, truly amazing!

these are genuinely the best purchase i have ever made. as a college student, the noise cancelling is amazing for drowning out unwanted noise while studying or even just for a kitchen dance party. they have superior sound quality and i love them so dearly!

I bought these in 2023 via Amazon. I liked the way they blocked out sound and the sound of the music. I can’t get it to keep a charge anymore, though. Once I take it off the charger I get a message telling me the battery is low. Any ideas?

Happy with the bass was impactful. But disappointed with the Sound Connect App as there was no customization for bass only a general loudness level for bass. Would prefer to have the same function ad on XM6. Mid range was ok but high pitch was rather weak need to compensate by lowering the bass and turn up the volume to boost the high pitch.

Doesn't work while using power tools… which is the reason i purchased them. Even tried adjusting the setting with the app.

I bought this 3 weeks ago and it is absolutely excellent, I was skeptical as these are around 4-5 years old but you really aren't missing much compared to the newer models, especially if on a budget! I have only charged these once and I have been using every day moderate use, ANC is fantastic and generally comfy to wear through the day

They were the best headphones before the XM5 & XM6 were brought into the fray, considering they fold and the XM5 doesn't, that imho makes these the second best headphones right now. The sound is perfect for me, the bass is not too heavy, the rest of the sonic detail is super clear. As with anything new vs old, I do covet the new ANC in the XM6 (and XM5 btw) as the ANC in the XM4 could be better, but it really isn't an issue when you pay less that £200 for them. I predict in 3 years, i'll swap them out for the foldable XM6 for a bargain price and still have a better product than some of the really expensive headphones available at that time.

I love this model even though there are newer versions. Bought 3 more units as gifts.

I bought this in November 2025 and the noise cancelling and audio quality is extremely good and I cannot barely hear anyone through them. However I do wished it had a better mic.

So far so good Bought these before Christmas - no faults or issues at all so far - let’s see how long they last! Happy to recommend at this price

Had headphones for a few weeks and I find them really good. Noise cancelling is very good compared to my old Sony headphones, sound quality is very good after just tweaking the bass. They are very comfortable to wear, light and seem pretty well made. Would buy again

I got these headphones for Christmas, and I'm extremely disappointed. The sound quality is good. The Battery life is great. The noise cancelling is superb. However, my biggest gripe is also it's biggest weakness. The touch controls. What the hell is that? My 70 dollar Raycons which I bought 3 years ago, have dedicated buttons for volume control and song skipping. I'm in a situation where I cannot access my phone for volume control, so I have to rely on the headphones to adjust the volume quickly. To go from max volume to the lowest with this stupid touch sensor takes about 10 entire seconds. Not only that, but I can't sleep with these due to the sensor. Putting it against anything makes it freakout and start doing random stuff. These are pretty good sounding headphones, but I would never try to use them in public due to how much this touch panel is either unresponsive, slow, or just generally clunky.

I've used headphones for years but never have I had some as effective as the Sony Noise Cancelling ones - its as if I'm the only person around for miles - love them!

There is an abnormal sound from my headphones. When I walk, I feel something shaking inside them. I even only used it for a month and charged it once

Not a good listening headphone for traveling. ANC can’t handle closing/opening bus door sound. It will create the loud cloak sound when ever the door closes or opens which is very very disturbing.
