Sharp at wide open from the centre to corners, it is the ideal standard lens; However, I love the 50mm as well; this 35mm allows portraits with an expansive view background while my 135mm focuses on the portrait narrowing the background to provide greater focus on the face.

Purchased this with the FX30 at the pwp price. So far lens works like a gem. Though price is a little steep but material is good.

Outstanding 35mm lens that truly delivers great optical quality for both photo and video. Small and lightweight it is a joy to shoot with all day. Great contrast and flare control with lightning fast auto focus, a must buy for any lover of this focal length.

Having studied several favourable reviews I purchased this lens for general purpose use ranging from travel, reportage and landscape to environmental portraiture and group portraiture. The image quality is outstanding, its speed in achieving focus on my A7iii is excellent, whilst its build quality is what you would expect for a G Master lens at the price point set. The aperture ring is a necessary feature for an aperture priority photographer like me. All in all very satisfied and I anticipate several years service from this professional standard lens.

I am a 35mm shooter. I always want a wide aperture and light weight lens. I found that the Zeiss 35mm is good but the weight is too heavy for me. The another alternative is the 35mm f/1.8, which is light weight. The image quality is good if stopping down a bit. I was so excited when Sony introduced the 35mm GM. I read a lot of reviews and rented the lens twice to try it. The GM lens is excellent in image quality when wide open. For me, it is the best 35mm in Sony product line. The weight and size are slightly heavier and bigger than 35mm f/1.8 but it is still the smallest and lightest in its class when comparing to other brands. It makes me want to carry it wherever I go. Highly recommended.

As an avid hiker in the northeast part of the United States (NH and ME), I consider this an ideal lens. With the twist of the aperture ring I can either capture what I see in front of me on the trail, or isolate something that has caught my eye, both of which will have incredible sharpness, wonderful bokeh, or both. Additionally, the inherent sharpness of this lens allows me, via cropping, to capture details of distant peaks. I could not n=be happier with this lens.

Bought this lens to wander around cities and have a bit more fov than the amazing 50mm F1.2 that I also own. Definitely lives up to the GMaster badging. Its fast but not too bulky, and it actually works amazingly for mid range portraits too. A great buy.

It is really amazing lens - great colours, incredibly sharp optics, a fantastic fast prime that will help you nail the shot in the lowest of light, diversifiable for wide and close-ups, dedicated aperture ring, the only flaw is it is a bit slow autofocus performance in low light...still solid performance for normal light...ideal for semi-pro and pro videos and general cinematic look . Exceptional quality - get one now!

I used this lens for the first time last week and loved the results, I'm going to use it a lot. Fast quiet and low distortion.

Bought the lens for my first trip to Korea after 1 year 9 months of not traveling since the begin of COVID 19. Light weight and sharp lens! Great for street photography.

Bought the FE 35mm f1.4 GM to go with my Sony A7R4, hesitated over the price but it's worth every penny & certainly warrants the G Master badge, brilliant piece of kit. The build quality is excellent, sharpness even wide open is superb & close focus range (around 10") is very useful. Focusing is fast, accurate & smooth, f1.4 is great in low light, bokeh is dreamy & at 524g it's not heavy - makes a great pairing with the A7R4 & is a go to lens. Using the APSC functionality on the camera allows me to use this lens at 1.5 crop factor giving me 52.5mm eq focal length which is a massive bonus (this is a camera feature not lens feature). Switching the aperture ring click per stop on or off is a nice feature, personally I prefer the clicks. Lens hood is more robust than many with a decent locking attachment meaning it can't accidently be knocked off, you have to press a button on the hood to release it. I'd highly recommend this lens, it's fab!

I bought this a week and a half ago and have tried it out in my home, out in the fields, woods and a wedding. I am so impressed by it. It is really sharp even at f1.4 and the bokeh is gorgeous! I also like that you can adjust the aperture on the lens itself. And the focus range is pretty close so you can get almost macro-level shots.

A compact, light weight, sharp at f1.4, beautiful colour and 3D pop. Less post processing needed.

Optical it is excellent. That covers boka, sharpness, distortion on a A7R4. It is light and uses just 67mm filter size. One lens went into the water for one second on a rafting tour. It fogged up in few minutes and went back for repair. Conclusion Sony's foot note above is very correct and serious. Perhaps such a short event shows that this lens isn't dust resistant. Long term use requires to keep lens and camera totally away from the elements. For this GM top of the line lens that is very restrictive to its professional use. For home use it is outstanding in optical quality and recommended. For professional use it has insufficient dust and water resistance. That explains my rating.

Super fast auto focus speed, Very sharp in F1.4, Best bokeh without onion ring, Bokeh are soft, Almost no lemon shaped bokeh when using F2 Nearest focus area with 25cm (manually) or 27cm (auto), very nice for taking food photos while travel. 35MM F1.4 good for day or night photo shooting. Nice lens color...

Only had this lens few days. well pleased with it. Does just what i was hoping for. Plenty of Bokeh and very sharp images. Great separation image to background on portraits

This lens is top of the line , optical quality is superb, retains saturation of color particularly in the sky because of the nano coating used, simply put this is the best 35mm 1.4 on the market

Have been using the lens on my A7C for a few months. Mainly use it for portrait and street. reliable and beautiful performance.

The lens I just bought last month has excellent imaging, very fast and sharp focus. Beautiful bokeh, small size, excellent image quality lens

Good lens with few cons only. - very sharp lens even open wide at 1.4 - Corner shape great at wider aperture, color rendering was better than other GM lenses which I have used - Only complain about focus breathing of lens.

The lens is as sharp as per what you would expect from GM lens. The focus is fast but not extraextraordinary from the rest of the lens that i already have which include a zeiss 55mm and a 20mm G lens. But my understanding is its faster on A7iii or A7C. May not be much improvement on my A7ii. Having said that, its still very fast. This is my first time using a 35mm lens. While i prefer the bokeh of a longer lens for portrait, i would think this lens will be on my camera most of the time due to the usability of an 35mm in many situation. Weight wise, eventhough is heavier than my 20mm or 55mm, its properly weighted on my A7ii with a comfortable strap. I would not recommend it for A7C, as i think its diameter is too big for a compact cam. I also favour the hood circular design compare to those with petal design. This is purely my preference though.

I love the 35mm focal length and the 35mm F/1.4 GM has an amazing quality that I think is unbeatable. Lightweight, relatively smaller compared to the other GM lenses and amazing bokeh and quality. Highly recommended.

Very sharp even at 1.4 but the focus breathing really gets to me

Bought it when it was released. One of my favorite lenses! It's compact and really sharp! Down side would be it's focus breathing.
